Officially Freaked Out

So I was just chatting back and forth with Missy in e-mail about the kid subject and all of the sudden I am pretty freaked out about being a parent! OH MY WORD! JOE AND I ARE GOING TO BE PARENTS! Up until now the furthest that I had thought was bringing home an adorable little baby and having everyone tell us how beautiful and wonderful he/she is...and then it hit me...that baby is going to grow up! In 13 years that cute little baby will be a teenager! Whenever I did something to upset my mom growing up she would tell me "one day when you have kids I just hope that they don't hurt you the way you are hurting me". Now I do realize that my mother may have been a little dramatic in her words, drama runs in our family, but how scary to think that this little person that I have never met but love so much will one day break my heart. How do you prepare for parenthood? How do you know that you will be a good parent? Is anyone ever really fully prepared to be a parent? Why don't they have a certification class or something for this? I am still overwhelmed with joy that we are going to be parents but all of the sudden I have this fear that we are going to suck at this.

You and Joe will make great parents! I think as parents sometimes you learn as you go and you take advice from others who have been there. I have no doubt you and Joe will love your children so much that everything else will fall into place.

Ok, you said it, not me....that was so the Jessica Drama Queen! I laughed, but totally understand what you are saying. I'm glad I didn't think about that while I was pregnant with Asher. I probably would have driven myself crazy. You guys will be awesome! It will seem so natural and you'll just "knonw" what to do. I PROMISE. Plus, you can call me anytime, even at 3AM if you aren't sure what to do or how to handle something. What the heck, I'll probably be awake for a feeding as well. Love You!!

Bless your heart, Jessica! I don't think anyone is ready to be a "parent". God oviously thinks that you and Joe are ready. Take one day at a time and before you know it, he/she will be 8yrs old and you can tell yourself that you did it...1/8 of the way at least! Just do the best you can and everything will be OK, I promise!!
And, if Amy can't answer a question, you can call me!
